Texas State Aquarium
The idea for the Texas State Aquarium was conceptualized by its founders early on to focus on the species in Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The exhibits would contain representatives of the area’s main marine ecosystems. The Gulf of Mexico opened in 1990 with a commencement from former President Bush speaking to a front lawn packed full of supporting visitors. After years in the making, the Caribbean Journey, part of the original vision, opened its doors in 2017. The Caribbean Journey doubles the size of the aquarium and provides homes to an exciting collection of sea and land creatures. It is here that you can break into the mesmerizing secrets of the underwater and jungle world. For those wishing to spend time in an extraordinary place, a promising unforgettable experience awaits.
The Texas State Aquarium is the perfect platform for people and families to learn, bond and discover together. Visit us when you are considering things to do in Corpus Christi, Texas.

King Ranch Museum
To understand the mythic past of King Ranch, a trip to the King Ranch Museum is a must.
The museum is the definitive repository of ranch lore and the items on display clearly evoke the bygone days on Captain King’s legendary spread.
The King Ranch Museum’s permanent collections include: Toni Frissell’s award-winning photographic essay of life on King Ranch in the early 1940’s; saddles from around the world, guns, and rifles including a King Ranch commemorative Colt Python .357 magnum revolver (serial number KR1), a limited edition series of full-scale replicas of historic Republic of Texas flags, and antique carriages and vintage cars, including El Kineño, a custom designed Buick Eight hunting car built for Congressman R. M. Kleberg, Sr., in 1949 by General Motors. Upon arriving at the King Ranch Museum, you are welcomed with a bronze sculpture of Mrs. Henrietta King and her son-in-law Robert J. Kleberg, Sr., as well as a sculpture of the first artesian well that was drilled on King Ranch in the summer of 1899. Visitors can view videos about the history of King Ranch and its main residence.

Birds on King Ranch
King Ranch boasts a vast array of migratory bird species at various times of the year.
With 825,000 acres of varied habitat, the King Ranch is a haven for birds and birdwatchers alike. Named as a site on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail and as a Globally Important Bird Area by the American Bird Conservancy, the ranch boasts a bird list of 363 species.
Vast tracts of habitat are home to a variety of South Texas specialty birds, including ferruginous pygmy-owl, tropical parula, northern beardless-tyrannulet, Audubon’s oriole, Botteri’s sparrow, green jay, white-tailed hawk, olive sparrow, and much more. Over the years, the ranch has also hosted a large number of rare birds including double-striped thick-knee, jabiru, Eurasian wigeon, masked duck, aplomado falcon, and garganey.
Situated at the confluence of several migratory pathways, the ranch is a virtual highway for migrating birds in both fall and spring. During the winter months, large numbers of birds, having finished breeding in the northern reaches of the U.S., join our tropical year-round residents. Special winter residents include Sprague’s pipit, burrowing owl, mountain plover, and piping plover.
As one of the premier birding destinations in South Texas and the country, the King Ranch offers a wide variety of birding opportunities. Please visit the tour page for a listing of tours.
